We are excited to announce that People Nearby has officially launched! This new feature will allow users to interact with each other to add and withdraw funds while using local payment methods.

People Nearby is currently being tested in a few markets, but the program will expand to more regions in the coming months. Please stay tuned for additional updates!

What is People Nearby and how does it work?

People Nearby (PNB) operates like a local classified. As soon as you create an order we will show you an offer wall of users in your neighborhood who are interested in what you are offering, be it physical cash or digital money.

When helping users add money, you will be transferring money into their Xapo account in exchange for cash. Make sure you are carrying enough funds in your Xapo account before meeting the user.

When helping users withdraw, you will be giving them cash in exchange for a transfer into your Xapo account. Make sure you are carrying enough cash before meeting the user.

You will be able to chat with any user you think might be a good fit to help you complete your order and you can also use the chat function to coordinate a meeting. Once you two meet, you will simply have to exchange funds in order to complete the transaction!


Where can I access People Nearby?

You can register and access PNB through the People Nearby section in the Chat tab of your Xapo app.

As a note, PNB is only available in certain regions. You will only see the feature available in your app if you live in a participating area. Don't worry – we are currently developing People Nearby for other regions to be announced soon!


Why do you suggest I use cash to complete my order?

Cash allows transactions to be completed without the need for a third party. This ensures that your transaction will involve no delays or bank fees and may be completed as fast as possible.

To help you do so, we provide a selection of verified Xapo users such as yourself who are also interested in exchanging funds. Chat with them, coordinate a meeting time and place, and complete your transaction.


Can I complete my order with People Nearby via wire transfer?

While it is possible to complete your order in your desired payment method, we highly recommend you meet other Xapo users in person and exchange cash. This guarantees that there are no delays or problems in the exchange of funds.

When completing a wire transfer, there is a moment where the funds are not in either your or the other Xapo user’s possession. This could be due to various reasons like processing times or banking delays, and it could result in added bank fees. By transacting in cash, you eliminate these obstacles and complete your order as fast and as securely as possible.


How do I make money through People Nearby?

You can make money with PNB by helping other Xapo users who want to add or withdraw money in areas with low activity.

You will be able to set fees, as well as the amount limits you can process per order. Keep in mind that when you charge fees you are setting an expectation of providing a high level of service. Users who want to charge fees but have low ratings will be removed from the program.


How do I charge a fee through People Nearby?

Once you have enabled PNB on your Xapo account, you can add fees through your profile settings by tapping on your avatar at the top-left of your screen and selecting Settings under the People Nearby section. 


Can I buy bitcoin through People Nearby?

Yes, you can buy bitcoins with PNB. This process requires two steps: first, you will have to add money to your account by exchanging cash with another Xapo user. Once the funds are deposited in your Xapo account, you can select Exchange within the My Money tab, at which point you can choose to exchange your money for any global currency, including bitcoin.

People Nearby - Creating an order

Why does Xapo need access to my location?

When creating orders with People Nearby (PNB), you will have access to an offer wall with other Xapo users in your neighborhood who may help you complete your order. By knowing your location we will be able to provide the most convenient options. 

As your security and privacy are always a priority to us, we will never share your exact location; only the name of the neighborhood where you would like to complete your order will be displayed.


Can I create more than one order at a time?

You can only have one active order created at a time. If you would like to edit or cancel your order, you can do so by tapping Edit at the top of the People Nearby section of the Chat tab in your Xapo app.


Is there a limit on how much I can add or withdraw with People Nearby?

The limit to how much you can add or withdraw is dependent on the offer available in your neighborhood. However, you are free to complete your order in partial amounts with more than one person.


Is there a minimum required to add or withdraw with People Nearby?

There is no minimum amount required to create an order with PNB. However, other users may not be interested in very low amounts.

People Nearby - Editing an existing order

How do I change the amount on my order?

To edit your current order amount, tap on Edit by your order at the top of the People Nearby section of the Chat tab in your Xapo app.


How do I cancel my order?

To cancel your current order, tap on Edit by your order at the top of the People Nearby section of the Chat tab in your Xapo app. You will then see the trash icon at the top of the screen.


How do I view offers in other neighborhoods?

To edit your location, tap on Edit by your order at the top of the People Nearby section of the Chat tab in your Xapo app. Then, select the current location of your order. You can then choose a new neighborhood you would like to perform your transaction in. Once you've done this, you will need to re-enter the amount of your order again for your updated location.

People Nearby - Completing an order

How do I complete my order?

To complete an order with PNB you need to first select and chat with users who might be willing to help you complete your order. You will see the list of available options by visiting the People Nearby section within the Chat tab of your Xapo app. Just tap on any of the individuals listed to open up a new chat where you can communicate with them.

Use the chat feature to communicate with as many users as you’d like and coordinate to meet them in person. Once the meeting takes place, the person adding funds will count and give their cash to the person withdrawing. The person withdrawing will then tap the $ button at the bottom of your chat conversation and transfer the equivalent amount they received into your Xapo account.

As soon as the exchange has taken place, both users will receive a confirmation via chat that the transfer has been completed.


How do I know how much to give the other person?

When completing an order with another Xapo user, the top section of your chat will include a summary of how much you will pay and receive.


How do I confirm I’ve received my funds after completing an order?

When completing an order, the Xapo user who wants to add funds to their account will give their cash to the other person they are completing their order with. The user who wants to withdraw funds will then transfer those equivalent funds via Xapo.

Both of you will receive the transaction details in the chat once the transfer of funds through Xapo has been completed.


There are many offers. How do I choose the best one?

You can choose offers based on their order amount, rating, distance, and fee. You are free to chat with any user whose mix of these factors makes completing the transaction convenient, safe and affordable for yourself. In any case, the offer wall will present those users closest to you first.


There are no offers available. What happens now?

Offers are created and completed quickly between Xapo users every day. If you have already created an order and see no users to chat with, don’t worry! As soon as a new compatible offer appears, we will send you a notification.


How do I receive more offers?

If you don’t see any current offers that you would like to complete your order with (or any orders at all), don’t worry! As soon as a new compatible offer appears, we will notify you.


Can I complete my order with more than one person?

Yes! You can chat with and complete your order with as many different users as you’d like.


I completed my order to add money into my account. Where are my funds?

After completing an order, the funds will appear in your account in the same currency as you paid in cash.


Will I be in touch with the users after I complete my orders?

Yes! After you complete your order the Xapo user you exchanged with is automatically added to your Xapo contact list. You can message them at anytime, whether or not either of you have an existing order in place.


I am getting too many notifications. How do I reduce this amount?

We are currently working on a feature to give you the option to control notifications, which will be available very soon. Stay tuned!

How do I stay safe while using People Nearby?

In order to access PNB Xapo users must first verify their identity and residence. We also consistently monitor the platform to ensure that only reliable users are transacting.

Whilst coordinating a meeting, we recommend doing so during the day in a public place you are familiar with. Coffee shops, bank lobbies and shopping malls are ideal locations.


Can I complete my order with People Nearby without meeting the other user in person?

The best way to complete your transaction is by meeting other Xapo users in person and exchanging cash. This guarantees that your transaction is completed in the fastest and most reliable manner.

If you want to complete your order without meeting the other user, one of you must pay first. We do not recommend doing this unless this is with someone you personally know and trust.


What information can other users see about me?

When viewing offers, users can only see the following information when clicking on other users' profiles: first name and last name initial, profile photo, and the neighborhood where the order was created. We will never share your exact location. Once a chat is initiated, full names will be displayed.


How can I view more information about another user?

To view more information about another user, you can tap on their profile picture within your chat to see additional details.


How do I report a user?

Please send a chat message to your Xapo contact and let them know who you are reporting and why.


How do I block a user?

We are currently working on the feature to block a user, which will be made available very soon. In the meantime, if you are experiencing issues with another user, please send a chat message to your Xapo contact for assistance.


How do I contact Xapo regarding a problem I had during a transaction?

When you first use PNB you will receive a message from one of our team members. They will have their last name listed as Xapo and will serve as your Xapo contact. They will be able to guide you should you have any questions or feedback. You can also click on the help button available on your app.

How do I change my profile picture?

To change your profile picture, tap on your avatar at the top-left of your screen within the Chat tab of the Xapo app. It will then bring up the option to take a new photo or choose from your gallery. Make sure to provide a clear and friendly photo to gain trust from other PNB users!


How do I improve my rating?

You can improve your rating by building trust with other users. Be friendly and flexible when transacting with others. Once your transaction is completed, both users will be asked to rate their experience.
