How do I create a Xapo Wallet for my institution?

Begin by visiting xapo.com/institutions/ and entering your email and company name. At Xapo, an institution’s wallet is always linked to at least one personal wallet, so if you have a personal Xapo wallet, enter the email associated with that account to add your institutional wallet. If you don’t yet have a personal Xapo Wallet, you will be asked to create one at the same time.

The creator of the wallet becomes the exclusive ‘owner’, with ‘admin’ privileges that cannot be revoked. The ‘owner’ should be a trusted individual of the institutional wallet, but should you need to reassign the owner, contact institutions@xapo.com. Your institutional wallet is below your personal wallet in the ‘wallet’ tab.

While your account is awaiting verification from Xapo’s compliance team, you’ll see a screen like the one below.

Follow the steps in the email, and our compliance team will work with you to complete the verification process.

How do I purchase bitcoins for my institution?

Once your institution’s wallet has been created, any assigned ‘admin’ or the ‘owner’ can add funds for the Institutional Wallet. If you haven’t yet completed the phone and identity verification process, you will be required to do so before initiating the wire transfer.

On the main Xapo screen after logging-in, click the red “Add Funds” button in the middle of the page. You will be asked for whom you’d like to add funds for, your personal Xapo Wallet, or your institution’s wallet.

Wiring funds to your personal Xapo wallet must be done from a personal bank account, while funds for the institution’s wallet should be from a corporate bank account.

How do I grant wallet access to another individual in my institution?
An account ‘owner’ or ‘admin’ can grant members of an institution access to its wallet. Select your institutional wallet from the wallet menu. If you’re the account ‘owner’ inviting your first new user, select the ‘get started’ button in the ‘new wallet permission settings’ box:

After adding your first user, the ‘new wallet permission settings’ notice seen above will be replaced by a ‘change settings’ gear and list of users with whom you share the wallet.

In your institutional wallet settings, under ‘who can access this wallet?’ (as seen below) you will see all individuals with access to the wallet, and their various access and permissions. If you do not see this, you either are not the 'owner' of the account, or you don’t currently have ‘admin’ privileges. To invite a new user, enter his or her email address in the ‘invite’ box at the bottom of the page. You may cancel the invitation at anytime before the user accepts.

If the user you invited doesn’t yet have a Xapo account, they will be guided through creating one via the invitation email.

All permissions (‘admin’, ‘transfer’ and ‘approve’) are by default turned off for new users. Until you’ve enabled any access and the new user has verified their phone number and identity, users will only be able to view the wallet balance.

The ‘owner’ has unrestricted permission to delete and remove any user from the institution’s wallet.

Can I change the ‘owner’ of my institution’s wallet?
Changing the ‘owner’ of your institution’s wallet is a manual process that requires Xapo to review your account personally. Please contact institutions@xapo.com to begin the process.
