We are excited to announce that People Nearby has officially launched! This new feature will allow users to interact with each other to add and withdraw funds from using local payment methods.

 

People Nearby is currently being tested in a few markets, but the program will expand to more regions in the coming months. Please stay tuned for additional updates!

People Nearby - General Questions

What is People Nearby and how does it work?

People Nearby operates like a local classified. When you create an order we will show users in your neighborhood who are interested in what you are offering, be it physical cash or digital money.

For example, if you create an order to add money you will see all Xapo users nearby who want to withdraw. If you want to withdraw money, you will see users who want to add.

You can chat with any user you think is a good fit to help you complete your order. Use the chat function to coordinate a meeting. Once you two meet, you simply exchange funds and the transaction is complete!

 

Why do you suggest I use cash to complete my order?

Cash allows transactions to be completed without the need for a third party. This ensures that your transaction has no delays or bank fees and can be completed as fast as possible.

To help you do so, we provide a selection of verified Xapo users such as yourself who are also interested in exchanging funds. Chat with them, coordinate a meeting time and place, and complete your transaction.

 

Can I complete my order with People Nearby via wire transfer?

While it is possible to complete your order in your desired payment method, we highly recommend you meet other Xapo users in person and exchange cash. This guarantees that there are no delays or problems in the exchange of funds.

When completing a wire transfer, there is a moment where the funds are not in either your or the other Xapo user’s possession. This could be due to various reasons like processing times or banking delays, and it could result in added bank fees. By transacting in cash, you eliminate these obstacles and complete your order as fast and as securely as possible.

 

Can I create more than one order at a time?

You can only have one active order created at a time. If you would like to edit or cancel your order you can do so by clicking Edit at the top of the People Nearby section on your Xapo app.

 

Can I buy bitcoin through People Nearby?

Yes, you can buy bitcoins with People Nearby. This process requires two steps: first, you will have to add funds by exchanging with another Xapo user. Once the funds are deposited in your local currency wallet, you must click on Transfer, at which point you can choose to convert your funds to any global currency, including bitcoin.

 

How do I make money in People Nearby?

You can make money with People Nearby by helping other Xapo users who want to add or withdraw funds in areas with low activity.

To do so, visit your profile in the Xapo app and click on People Nearby Settings. From there, you will be able to set fees, as well as the amount limits you can process per order.

Keep in mind that when you charge fees you are setting an expectation of providing a high level of service. Users who want to charge fees but have low ratings will be removed from the program.

 

How do I charge a fee through People Nearby?

You can add fees in your profile settings under People Nearby Settings. Keep in mind that when adding fees you are providing a service for other Xapo users who want to add or withdraw funds in areas with low activity. Users will expect stellar service and will be stricter when providing a rating.

When helping users add money, you will give them money into their Xapo Wallet in exchange for cash. Make sure you are carrying enough funds in Xapo before meeting the user.

Will I be in touch with the users after I complete my orders?

Yes! After you complete your order the Xapo user you exchanged with is automatically added to your list of contacts in the Xapo app. You can message them anytime, regardless if you or they have an existing order.

Why does Xapo need access to my location?

When creating orders with People Nearby we will show other Xapo users in your neighborhood who can help you complete your order. By knowing your location we can provide the most convenient options. 

As your security and privacy is always a priority, we will never share your exact location; only the name of the neighborhood where you would like to complete your order will be displayed.

 

Is there a limit on how much I can add or withdraw with People Nearby?

The limit to how much you can add or withdraw is dependent on other users in your neighborhood. However, you are free to complete your order in partial amounts with more than one person.

 

Is there a minimum required to add or withdraw with People Nearby?

There is no minimum amount required to create an order with People Nearby. However, other users may not be interested in very low amounts.

How do I change the amount of my order?

To edit your current order amount, click on Edit at the top of the People Nearby chat section.

 

How do I cancel my order?

To cancel your current order, click on Edit at the top of the People Nearby chat section. You will then see the trash icon at the top of the screen.

 

How do I view offers in other neighborhoods?

To edit your location, click on Edit at the top of the People Nearby chat section. You can then choose a new location you would like to perform your transaction in.

People Nearby - Completing an Order

How do I chat with another Xapo user?

To message another user, visit the People Nearby section and click on any of the individuals listed. This should open a chat where you can communicate with them.

 

There are many offers. How do I choose the best one?

You can choose offers based on their order amount, rating, distance and fee. You are free to chat with any user whose mix of these factors make completing the transaction convenient, safe and cheap for yourself.

 

There are no offers available. What happens now?

Offers are created and completed quickly between Xapo users every day. If you created an order and see no users to chat with, don’t worry! As soon as a new offer appears, we will notify you.

 

How do I receive more offers?

If you don’t see any current offers that you would like to complete your order with (or any orders at all), don’t worry! As soon as a new offer appears, we will notify you.

 

Can I complete my order with more than one person?

Yes! You can chat with and complete your order with as many different users as you’d like.

 

How do I complete an order through People Nearby?

To complete an order with People Nearby you need to first select and chat with users who can help you complete your order. You will see the list of available options in the Xapo chat section of the Xapo app.

Use the chat to communicate with as many users as you’d like and coordinate to meet them in person. Once the meeting takes place, the person adding funds will count and give their cash to the person withdrawing. The person withdrawing will then click on the $ button at the bottom of their chat and transfer the amount they received to your Wallet.

Once this process has been completed, both users will receive a confirmation in the chat that the transfer has been completed.

 

How do I know how much to give the other person?

When completing an order with another Xapo user, the top section of your chat will include a summary of how much you will pay and receive.

 

How do I confirm I’ve received my funds after completing an order?

When completing an order, the Xapo user who wants to add funds to their Wallet will give their cash to the other person they are completing their order with. The user who wants to withdraw funds will then transfer those equivalent funds via Xapo.

 

Both of you will receive the transaction details in the chat once the transfer of funds through Xapo has been completed.

 

I completed my order to add money to my Wallet. Where are my funds?

After completing an order, your funds will be in your Wallet in the same currency you paid in cash.

 

I am getting too many notifications. How do I reduce this amount?

We are currently working on a feature to give you the option to control notifications, which will be available very soon. Stay tuned!

What information can other users see about me?

When viewing offers, users can only see the following information for other users: first name and last initial, profile photo, and neighborhood where the order was created. We will never share your exact location. Once a chat is initiated, full names are displayed.

 

How can I view more information about another user?

To view more information about another user, you can click on their profile picture within your chat.

 

How do I stay safe while using People Nearby?

To use People Nearby, all Xapo users must verify their identity and residence. We also consistently monitor the platform to ensure that only reliable users are transacting.

While coordinating a meeting, we recommend meeting during the daytime in a place you are familiar with. Coffee shops, bank lobbies and shopping malls are ideal locations.

 

Can I complete my order with People Nearby without meeting the other user in person?

The best way to complete your transaction is by meeting other Xapo users in person and exchanging cash. This guarantees that your transaction is completed in the fastest and most reliable manner.

If you want to complete your order without meeting the other user, one of you must pay first. We do not recommend doing this unless it is with someone you personally know and trust.

How do I change my profile picture?

To change your profile picture, visit the profile section on your Xapo app and click on your current photo. It will then bring up the option to take a new photo or choose from your gallery.

 

How do I improve my rating?

You can improve your rating by building trust with other users. Be friendly and flexible when transacting with others. Once your transaction is completed, both users will be asked to rate their experience.

How do I contact Xapo regarding a problem I had during a transaction?

When you first use People Nearby you will receive a message from one of our team members. They will have their last name listed as Xapo and will serve as your Xapo contact. They will be able to guide you should you have any questions or feedback.

 

How do I report a user?

Please send a chat message to your Xapo contact and let them know who you are reporting and why.

 

How do I block a user?

We are currently working on the feature to block a user, which will be made available very soon. In the meantime, if you are experiencing issues with another user, please send a chat message to your Xapo contact for assistance.
